89 Camry manual transaxle fluid change
I'm glad I decided to make sure I could locate the fill plug on my transaxle before draining it because I couldn't find it! I have:
1989 Camry
3F-SE 2.0L 4 cyl
5 speed manual transmission
Front wheel drive
I have a Haynes shop manual. It shows a generic picture of where the fill plug should be. When I look on my trasnmission there is no fill plug in that location. There is a plug near that location, but I thought it looked to low down on the transmission to be a fill plug. The transaxle is supposed to take 2.4l of fluid. There doesn't appear to be 2.4l of transaxle below the plug I found.
I cracked it open anyways and slowly backed off the nut. Some fluid did drip out, but as I pulled the plug away, that drip turned into a stream so I immeadiately put it back. A bit of fluid dripping out wouldn't surprise me, but for there to be a stream, the trasnaxle would have to be overfilled. This seems unlikely given that any overfill would gush back out the hole you are trying to force it into.
Can anyone say with certainty where the fill plug is on my car? A link to some pictures would be nice.
Thanks in advance,
Stewart
