1987 Camry with blown engine...

Hello to all,

I'm new here. I just purchased an 87 Camry and to my dismay there is a quarter size hole in the engine on the right lower side. I am not sure what caused it but I think my best bet would be to get a different engine, right?

The car model# is SV21L-EUPNKA.

I believe this is a 2nd generation Camry. If I were to look for a different engine that went in without any modifications needed, what should I look for?

Thanks so much.

The can you have as a 3S-FE 4-cylinder engine. Your best bet would be to swap in a working 3S-FE for your busted 3S-FE. Keep in mind this is my no means a performance enhancing engine.

If you are looking for more performance out of an engine, reply here.

I don't need an engine with more performance. Do you know if the crankshaft is a 6 or 8 bolt on?
This is the question the auto recycle place is asking.
Thanks for responding.

You should have the 6-bolt crank if it is the orignal motor. If you are worried, see if they will send the flexplate with whatever motor they send.

^ I agree.

Theres a way a check based on the manufacturing date of the car. I forget what the cutoff was though.

But early gen 2 Camrys w/3S-FE have a 6 bolt crank and the later ones have a 8 bolt crank.

Whoever you buy the engine from should supply you with the correct flywheel (manual transmission) or flexplate (automatic transmission).
