changing spark plugs in the 89 camry v6

I have an 89 camry with a v6 engine. I need to change the spark plugs but I can't get at three of them because the intake manifold is in the way. Do I have to take the Intake off to change them. It seems like a pretty big job for just changing spark plugs.

If I do have to do it, is there any specific steps I should take?

and does anyone have any tips for me (ie. things I should avoid)?

Also how long should I expect to spend doing this job?

thanks

I wouldnt take your manifold off just yet, im sure theres a way to get back there, you might have to do some intense "leanage over the enginage" but i would try to get back there by other means then removing the intake manifold.

And i would reccomend, going out and buying a Chiltons or Haynes repair manual and read through it thouroughly. Try to get to know your car and how it works inside and out, It will come in handy!!

I have the chiltons manual. It doesn't say dickus about getting at the spark plugs. It just says to change them you take the old ones out and put the new ones in. Not real helpful.

Has anyone actually changed their own spark plugs on the v6 camry?

you may be able to unbolt the front and rear engine mounts and tilt the whole thing forward (supported by a jack) and make enough room to reach the 3 plugs in the rear bank. This is how some GM and Nissan techs deal with the problem.

after detaching the front and rear mount of the engine, are you asuming there will be some bolts that the engine will still be connected by to swivle on or will the engine not be connected at all?

I think it might be easier to just detach the intake and lean it forward rather than trying to move the whole engine. It would have an identical effect.
