1st & 2nd Generation (1983–1986 & 1987-1991)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1983-1986 & 1987-1991.
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Today, I went to my local U-Pick to return my lower control arm that had a 30 Day warrantee, thus I got a 21.00 dollar credit for. Searching though camrys to see if I found the proper cluster for my 4cyl.
AND THERE SHE WAS!!
A digital cluster!! I pulled her out and her plugs look normal just for the fact that the middle plug is different than my camry!!
Anyone know how can I adapt this clustr to work in my car?
DAMN...nice find. It requires LOTS of work and rewiring to get it to fit, IE you need a fuel sender and a few other things to rewire if i do remember correctly. Search the board and youll find a guy who did it, but im not sure if he ever got it running correctly

seriously dude, you need to go back to that yard, grab all the wiring from behind the dash, and the rheostat for the lights and the fuel sender. Then come back here and sell it to me!

Yeah I used the search engine and found lots of info but yeah looks preatty complicated!!
I looked at the harness from behind the dash and there is alot of wireing!!
Dont know what the rheostat is? and dont know where the fuel sender is?
If you want it, we can work something out, but I dont know its working condition!
The best I could find at my junkyards was a digital dash from an '86 Nissan 200sx...thats a damn nice find, good luck getting it installed!
If you don't want to search, here's the thread that has some digital cluster stuff in it, and here's a potentially useful link from that thread about wiring...
1) Wire harness for the cluster. Just cut it out as far back as you can.
2) Rheostat. This is the knob you turn to adjust the dashboard's light intensity. You'll want the plug and wires as well.
3) Fuel sender. Remove the lower portion of the back seat, and you'll find the fuel sender there in the middle. Remove the screws, cut the wires (you'll want them), and lift it out of the gas tank. It's fairly delicate, so be careful with it.
Without these things, the cluster won't work very well.
what models did the digital cluster come in? i've never actually seen one other than in pictures and in my 89 camry manual. how reliable are these clusters? do they tend to wear out due to age? thanks in advance cause i'd be interested in picking up one for nostalgia's sake.
it's pretty rare i think it's an option only in canada and japan and aussie it was never an option in the US camries.. and not a lot of people got them either so it's really rare.
