2nd Generation Gen2 help please

I changed the throttlle position sensor on my 87 4 cy it was idleing at 800 rpms be fore the change, Now it is idleing at 1500 and i can not give it any throttle at all, If i take the wire plug off of the TPS it idles at 3500 and i can give it throttle. Thanks for all replys. BTW i changed it with out takeing the throttle body off.

put it back to normal? 800rpm idle is normal =\

125 front wheel horsepower with major retard issues between 4500-5200RPM -
OD switched off, even when not in 3rd results in major power loss/rpm drop.

the tps is spring loaded and u probably installed it wrong, it is also adjustable, take it off, and start the car , see if that fixes the idle problem.

I did not see but one way that it can be installed, I tryed it off it would not take fuel. Thank you for your reply.

Try this:

Remove the plastic air cleaner hose from the intake. There are two screws that hold the TPS on, loosen those up. Carefully remove the cover from the TPS unit 3 clips hold it on. You might need a mirror at this point to see what you are doing. Make sure the butterfly is closed (or as far closed as it will go).



Then adjust your TPS so the Idle contact is set in conjuntion with the throttle being closed. While you are in there make sure all the contacts are touching the circuit board, if not there is a possibility your TPS is no good.



Tighten down your TPS screws then put the cover back on.
Hopefully this will help solve your problem...

Thank you i will try that. I just went out and looked it is closed all the way tight, i can push it in with my finger.
