96 toyota camry alarm system prob

I realize this may be a stupid question, but i know nothing about cars and when i take my car in this afternoon i do not want to be taken advantage of at the dealership. My alarm system on my camry will not stop when I get in my car, lock the doors, step away, you name it....i've done it. I turn my key in the ignition and nothing happens, the car won't start, but i know it's not a battery problem because my radio turns on. Does the alarm system disallow you from starting your car and how in the hell do i fix this?

Yes most alarm systems have ignition bypasses. that will prevent a car from being hot-wired. Does the alarm keep going off? if so you may still have a dead battery. The radio and lights will still work even with a dead battery. But there wont be enough power to turn a cold engine over.

Yes, the alarm keeps going off. However, i also tried to jump the car and nothing happened either. So that made me wonder about the battery, but yeah i didn't know the radio would work with a dead battery

if u take it to toyota they will rip u off. they will tell u it needs to be replaced and bla blaa blaa. It will come to around $400 for a freakin alarm. So i suggest Taking it to them and having them disable the alarm.

Or.... You can do it yourself

Go and look underneath your dashboard (driver side where the pedals are). Look for a lil black box with a bunch of wires coming out of it. It should be stuffed up near the Steering wheel colloum. on the loom of wires coming off that there should be some fuses on those wires that go to the box. Take all those fuses out.

Then try the car. If u got the right fuses the alarm should not work anymroe.
