Unhappy '95 Camry appears to be leaking power steering fluid, Suggestions?

I have a '95 Camry LE 4-banger with 178,000 miles on it. It appears that my car is leaking power steering fluid. I've changed the fluid twice in the past few months. I first became alerted to the problem when my car starting whining when I would make a low-speed turn. Then I checked the power steering level to see it was low. So I changed it and the problem went away. Well a couple of months later, today, the sound was back and again the power steering level was low. Replaced the fluids and was on my merry way.

Well, this afternoon I was parked on some light-colored concrete and I saw a pool of power steering fluid (Dexron II/III I can't remember) on the ground. The reservoir is on the passenger side of the car, but the it was dripping down on the driver's side near one of the frame rails leading to the front suspension.

So am I looking at a fault power steering pump? Or is a line broken/leaking somewhere? How much do you think it would cost to replace a power steering pump + labor?

The pump is also on the passenger side.

Check the hoses, steering rack, and the pump.

Theres a high pressure hose that leads from the pump to the steering rack. Sometimes it leaks.

Well, I'm in no way a "car repair guy," so I'm going to have to take it in

Lucas Power Steering stop leak

http://www.shopatmidway.com/showprod...iliateid=10050

This stopped the leak in my 95 camry COMPLETELY! Saved me a several hundred dollar repair and was recommended to me by my regular mechanis to try before he replaced the pump. I had to add in the entire bottle and then about half of another before the problem was gone. Ran it 10k after that and never had a problem.

My '91 is leaking also. Get some Lucas power steering fluid and stop leak. It is guaranteed to stop any leak within two bottles, or your money back. It is pricy at $8 with the tax. I have gone through one bottle, and mine has slowed down a lot. Hopefully, one more bottle will do it. I think they can leak at the rack and pinion also. Good luck, and keep us posted on your outcome..

Probably. I used to have a leak as well and I used one of those that promised to stop leaks. And sure enough, it has stopped leaking.

Lucas is different from most of the others, be sure you get the Lucas brand name. It is thicker.

Advance Auto sells it.

If it is leaking might as well get it fixed right. Aditives are just a temporary fix!

The car just needs to hold out until Jan. Then I'm getting a 2006 Mazda 3s Hatch Grand Touring

It really depends. The Lucas PS fluid held mine for 10k miles and then I sold the car anyway and got a 2005 model. If 10k is temporary, then count me in

Lucas is available at CRAPPY TIRE. I used it in spite of no instructions regarding use in place of ATF. Used two bottles over two winters. It gets very thick in -40C cold & starts to leak again . But in general it works -- went all spring summer & fall without top up & I see it's down a little now
