Anyone converted Gen4 prop rod to gas struts?

I'm really not a fan of prop rods, I find them a pain in the butt.
Has anyone changed out their prop rod for a pair of struts?
What length is best and are there already mount points on the hood/body for them?

Im in the process of doing this right now, the previous owner of my car did not have the struts or the prop rod (used stick). You can get the struts at autozone or orielly for $25-$35 (I forgot how much I paid) but they wont fit right out of the bag.

There is something else that is missing from the car, like some latches or something. check out the Gen3_Part_list.PDF. on the online repair manual link. under hood. (second page down, and to the Right) you will see a pic of the struts, and at the bottom they have some sort of attachmet. Im going to the junk yard to find these things from another camry.

the toyota parts number would be (right side) R53440-39055, (left side) L53450-A9010, If you get them from toyota they will proly have the missing attachment and be a dirrect bolt on but you would most likely pay alot more.

hope this helps

No, the last owner of my camry used a stick, the car did not have the struts or any asembly to where they might have belonged to. When I bought the car he gave me the stick. its a nice stick he might have bought it at homedepot or somthing.

Is there much difference between the '99 Solara and the normal '99 Camry?
I was checking the parts web sites and the '99 Solara uses gas struts.
Anyone know if the hood area of the Solara is close enough to the LE Camry that I could grab the struts and use them?
Also, does anyone have a Sachs dealer near them? The part numbers of the Solara struts are
Right: SG329007
Left : SG329008
There's a little clip-thing at the bottom of the strut that isn't a separate part in the original Toyota parts lists. The big question is if the Sachs struts have them or not. (I'm hopeful they do since they list a left and right strut and there'd be no need to if the clip wasn't there)

Gen 3s do.
Gen 4 doesn't.
Gen 4.5 seems to have had them again. (at least according to the parts sites)
The sachs part numbers for the 00-01 struts is:
left: SG329012
Right : SG329011

Anyone with a gen4.5 want to look/take pics of how their hoods are held up?
