Has anyone here done a REAR END Conversion on a GEN 4 to GEN 4.5???
im thinking of doing it, but not sure what needs to be done. i figured ill be needing a new trunk n trunk lights (taillights), and also are the 2 outer tailights bigger on the GEN 4.5?
all u need is a new lid and a gen 4.5 rear bumper or get a kit
and rear qtr panels, rear outer lights and wiring.
the bumper is different?

Yeah you would basically need the entire back end of the car. The tailights onthe gen 4 are straight across where the gen4.5 have a slight angle to them on teh bottom of the ligth assembly. so without replacing the rear quarters or having a good body shop that is able to redo the quarters under the lights it would probably be a PITA> Unless you jsut hve lots of money laying around ad waht to spend it that is.

I stand corrected. It looks like you are right. i went and looked at some pictures in the gallery and from what I can tell you would jsut need to replace the trunk lid and maybe do some modifications to the bumper skin, maybe.
Even if they do angle down on the otside of the light I would think you would only have to replace the bumper skin since it wraps completely around into the rear quarters. The top part of it is not angled from what I can tell.
Ok leasaunce go for it and let us know how it turns out.

I agree with autobox I like the look af the 4.5 better. I remember everyone complaining about hte back of the gen 4 looking like a Ford Tempo when they came out.
You also need to do some rewiring to make it look right. On Gen 4.0, the brake lights are only one the corners and the trunk lights are only parking lights. On Gen 4.5, the trunk lights also serve as brake lights.
dont they have plugs somewhere in the trunk that you can unplug and will do away witht eh wiring that actually runs to the light assembly. It has been a long time since I messed with them but somewhere around the light failure sensor you can unplug everything from there to the actual lights. I am guessing here not stating it as fact.

I agree, I like the gen 4's rear look. Although i do like the 4.5s front. I wish I could do a front 4.5 conversion! That's the look I've always wanted, with the clear lens!
