3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
i dont know if any of you have noticed but our gen 3's have lights that automatically turn off.
lights in on position + key in ignition= lights on
lights in on position + key out of ignition= lights on
lights in on position + key out of ignition + drivers door ajar= lights off
this might be a given but i just figured this out a month or two ago... sooo it makes me feel better about my camry.. makes me feel that the car isnt THAT outdated
I'm guessing you've never read the owners manual. That's okay not many people care to look at what their cars options are... and like to be suprized when stupid little gimmicks happen once and a while. LoL good job for finding it out.
My '94 Rolla wagon has the auto lights off feature, I'm still trying to get the daytime running lights to turn off when parked and running. I thought putting up the parking brake would turn them off, nope. Anny suggestions?
I like that feature too, but it can be annoying sometimes. If you enter through the passenger side (because you parked on a busy street and it's safer), and need to (for example- eject a cd)- you turn the ignition to ACC, (the lights will turn on)... then you remove the cd, remove the key, and walk away. You never opened the driver door- so the lights won't turn off. You don't even think about turning off the lights because you never actually turned them on.
Although you learn not to do that after the first time you come back to a car w/ a dead battery.
on my 92 gen 3 I can hit the eject button without the keys in and it will still eject. and my friends think it is cool that such an old car has auto off lights, I really dont know why they think that s cool because it is a toyota and toyotas as been years ahead of the game for years.
sorta related, ever noticed you cannot lock the driver door with the keys in the ingition engine off and door open with the central locking switch?
also if the doors lockked and engines off (keys in) you can open ya door without pulling the lock open, it just opens from teh handle.
