3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
My daughter recently had her driver's side mirror and bracket broken when she was at a neighbor's babysitting. The mirror and the black bracket that holds the mirror in place are both broken and beyond repair. [I have photos FWIW.] It appears that ‘someone’ took a screw driver or something similar and pried the mirror out of the housing and then broke it on the street with a hammer-type of object. The 8-o-clock position of the mirror housing photo shows a little ‘mark’ where the 'pry' took place.
Here are the specifics:
93 Toyota Camry, Maroon, 4 door
4 cylinder
Driver’s side mirror
Internal mirrors controls working fine (switch inside the Camry moves the component parts fine- I could not find any inhibition at all) Missing items: Mirror and the holding bracket
I don’t want a ‘new’ mirror so I thought that a “mirror and bracket” combination could be obtained from a junk yard. Is this easy to install or do I need a complete NEW housing etc.?
TIA,
Tom
As lons as the place on the door it mounts up to is fine, it will be easy. I got a whole used door from a junyard that was missing a mirror, which I put on it from my original door. You have to take the black piece off on the inside of the door. (comes right off, pull it). Then take off the door panel. (1 screw in the main door handle, 1 screw in the map pocket on the bottom of the door, 2 screws on the inside of the door, where it touches the dash. 2 color matched plastic pieces should be covering them, take those off first, 2 plastic holders in the rear corner of the door, the place that touches the center door frame. Push them, you know when it's done, and take them out. Also take the plastic door handle backing off. Use a flat head screw driver on the top and bottom (between lock and backing) to pry it carefully off) There will be 4 plastic clips holding the bottom of the panel on, just pull it at the bottom and they come out. Lift up, and pull a little bit away from door. You will need to unhook the window/lock wires)
After that you can easily see what to do. Your wekcome to contact me if you need more help/info.

Thanks, ASG14! I'll give this a look at and a try. It may be a little while due to the holidays, too.
BTW, have you ever painted a mirror housing or such? What I'm driving at is that I can get a non-maroon mirror driver's side housing but it won't match my daughter's 93 LE Camry. Not that this is a show stopper, but she'd like to have the same color, if possible. Yes, we're aware that the age of the car may attribute to a maroon non-match if we find a maroon housing. But that's life!
We've thought about going to Wal-Mart and getting a mirror to put into the housing and just leave things alone. We'd glue or adhere, somehow, the mirror to the existing plate.
Any perspective or comments here would be appreciated!
Again, THANKS!!
Hey, ASG14, that's a cool site! I've never been to it but it's very handy.
Other similar sites?
I'll certainly be calling/contacting/emailing these guys, too.
One additional thing: in the painting/spraying of the mirror is there anything that I should be aware of besides just covering the mirror itself during the spraying? How do I smooth out some of the 'waves' that might appear during the spraying process?
And, yes, we do have an AutoZone/PepBoys nearby.
On another note, I just went to Mobil 1 10w30 on the Camry as well as my wife's and my car. It's doing real well too. Camry has 170K and my wife has about 87K+ and I've got 133K on our Toyotas. Using the Mobil 1 Extended Performance filter, too.
Instead of painting it, get a color matched one from the junkyard . Save time and Money. I honestly know nothing about painting, so I do not want to say anything. They may be able to tell you the details at the store you get it from.
I've been using Mobile 1 5W-30 in my Camry for the last 2 oil changes and will comtinue to do so.
www.car-part.com is by far the best site I have found, and the only one i use!

Yeah try your best to get a color matched mirror.. try ebay as well. Worse comes to worse, carmetics will charge like $80 to paint it (that was a metallic white)
