Alternative for 95' Camry boot Shocks...

Hi I have a 95 camry and my boot shocks do not seem to work. So when I open my boot it doesnt stay up it keeps falling down. The dealer said that replacing them would cost me $350. As I am a student this is too much money for me. I have seen the mechanics use some tool to make it stand can anybody tell me the name of the tool. It kind of looks like a cutting plier.

I've seen it done with vice grips. Available anywhere tools are sold under many brand names.
You can get lift struts on Ebay for about $50 each.

VIse grips would be the cheapest route. You jsut need one pair. Lock them onthe strut and the hood will not fall as long as it is on there.

I just use a piece of wood (like a broom stick) as a prop rod.
