Condenser fan not working (93 Camry LE V4)

Last week I found the condenser fan making funny noises and after a couple of days it died compleatly. When I tried to rotate the fan there was lot of resistance so I got myself a new aftermarket condenser fan from ebay. After replacing the fan I find it non operational when I turn on my AC (I even tried driving the car for a while with the AC on). Not sure if its the condenser fan or some fuse? I hope this will not over heat my engine (my radiator fan is working and I'm not using my AC).

Have you checked your fuses?

check fuses first.

Is the compressor kicking on even though the fan is not. It could be a pressure switch in teh AC system taht is not sending a signal to turn the fan on.

Doesn't the low pressure switch just cut out the compressor if the freon is low?

it has been so long since I worked on them I can not rememebr the exact process for it to all work. I was jsut trying to throw some other ideas out for him or others to work off of. considering he asaid the fan would not turn at all by hand or was very hard to turn anyway I would think fuse also. It porbably got to the point the amperage was to high for the fuse and it popped.

I've but I'm not sure which is the one controlling th fan. I saw one named CDS and another named FAN, I also noticed FAN1, FAN 2, FAN 3?. and these were all big fuses (30 A I think), how do I check if they are blown?

Yep, the condenser seems to be ok, and I get cold air and the engine dosn't heat up because of the cold weather or something but the condenser fan is not moving. I tried removing the power to the radiator fan and running the engine for sometime but even that did not make the condenser fan spin. I think it should be the fuse or the thermostat that controlls the fan.

Hello,
I have related question. My ('91 V6) CDS fan is totally dead (fan blade falling off, motor utterly stuck).

I have two questions:

- when is the CDS fan supposed to blow? Only when the A/C is on? When the Main Fan blows as well? In other words: is the CDS fan dedicated to cooling the condenser or is it used to supplement the radiator cooling as well? (According to the diagram both should spin when the engine is hot OR the A/C is on. I don't see a condition where only one would work, although the circuit seems to be designed for that in some way - else it appears complicated for nothing)

- what is supposed to happen when the CDS fan is not here? According to the wiring diagram(*), it shouldn't affect the main fan, but it would not spin with the A/C on. Considering my A/C doesn't work anyways, should I fear overheating? (AFAIK the CDS fan has been dead for quite a long time and I never had overheating trouble.)

(*) btw in the Haynes manual's wiring diagram it seems the #2 and #3 A/C fan relays are mixed up. It is the #2 which is 5-pin, according to the fuse box.

Its a suppliment to the radiator fan. It works only when the AC is turned on.

If you are not using your AC then you have nothing to worry about. I dont see the need for AC in Canada anyway

I'll have to check that up on my Haynes.

I understand the idea, but that contradicts the wiring diagram AFAIK. Could someone check their gen2 (well I guess it's the same in any gen). Does the MAIN fan spin when the engine is cold and the A/C on; and does the CDS fan spin when the engine is hot and the A/C off?

This is a follow-up. In fact the Haynes manual is wrong (once again!) in labelling the CDS versus RDI fan. They are mixed-up on the engine diagram at the beginning of the manual. Therefore the symptoms I have are understandable, though they seem to come from a defective water temp or A/C pressure switch. I only have to find the latter...
