96 Camry 5S-FE External Ignition Coil?

Weird...my Service Manual shows an internal coil, however my car has external. I am trying to check the Pickup Coil, but my distributor has only two wires, not the four (G+, G-, NE+, NE-) that the manual shows. Any ideas how to check this?

Also, I am sure mine has a crankshaft position sensor, however, the manual doesnt mention this on the 4 cyl at all...how can I check this?

Surely, I dont have a one-off vehicle...its production date is 12/95.

I have a '99 5S-FE. Mine has a crank position sensor.

I can see it easily right now since I've got the crankshaft pulley off (I'm in the middle of a timing belt change). It would be tough to see if the crankshaft pulley were on, as it sits behind the pulley at the bottom front of the engine. Maybe you could see it with a mirror or by getting directly under the crankshaft pulley and looking up into the space between the pulley and the front of the engine.

Also, mine has an electrical connector for the crank sensor that is on a bracket just above the A/C compressor and in front of the upper timing belt cover. A wire runs from this connector down the front of the engine and goes to the crank sensor. There is a pretty good pic of this connector and wire on the following thread

Now if I could just figure out how to check the distributor resistances since mine only has a two wire connector not the 4 wire that is in the shop manual. For some reason, I cannot get the engine to fire at the plugs though I am getting 12 volts at the coil. Funny thing is it worked perfectly until I changed the timing belt. I thought maybe I damaged the crank sensor when I had everything apart, but really have no way of knowing. Is there a resistance check I can do on this part as well?

Any help much appreciated.

Beyond suggesting that you get hold of a Factory Service Manual (if you don't already have one), I really can't help you there....I've never had that problem.
