95 Toyota Camry Idles at 1Rpm On Cold Start Normal?

I was wondering if anyone elses 95 camry idles at 1rpm on very cold winter startup? I just got the car and it seems a little weird. When it is very cold in the morning and i go and start it up it idles at 1rpm and then when warm it drops down to normal idling. lmk thanx

Actually it should be a bit more than 1rpm (you must have wanted to say "1000 rpm" ). Still, it should be near 1300-1500 when it is cold outside. May be you should consider cleaning your Idle Valve, located on Throttle body.

^Agreed. It should be about 1500rpm at cold start.

ya it idls at 1000 rpm at the most on every very cold start, could this be a bad head gasket problem? and one more thing will long and overdue coolant turn brownish dirtlike?

Anyone know what could be wrong with it? I'm guessing it could be a head gasket problem?

dont think it is a headgasket problem, clean your idle valve, butterfly valve, and change the oil if that hasnt been done. also, if your car has heated up to high, it will turn the coolant brown, this happened to mine when it overheated. do a coolant flush, that will help to get all of the buildup and crud out of there. when my car is cold it idles around 1000, sometimes a little more, but will usually stay around there for 2-3 mins.

if they are using the Toyota red coolant it will turn brown even more so than the normal green most people use.

As for idle yeah it sounds like you need to clean out the throttle body, and all pieces associated with it like others have mentioned.

BAd headgasket will not necessarily make a car idle low or anything like that. You would normally get a very rough idle if it is blown internally(into the combution chamber). If it is blown externally you will notice either coolant or oil leaking inthe area where the cylinder head meets the engine block.

on moderately cold days my car will definetly idle at 1500 rpm until warm. however, on extremely cold days ive seen the idle go as high as 2000 rpm until warm.

btw. thats on my 95 1mz slushbox with 150,000 miles.
