3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
well I didnt really know how slow it was untill I drove it, compared to my G20 its not an exciting car, more of a cruiser-exactly what I want , now only if I can find a XLE
last year when i drove from Edmonton to Vancouver in my '92 4cyl i was wishing that i had more power. especially when i was driving in those single laned highways and trying to pass a RV in the mountains with an oncoming car in the distance. felt like i was in slow motion.
yeah, I know I should be lookin fore a V6, I think Im going to be patient. The only down fall if i get a V6 is that it might have high kms (170kms ??) but they should be able to get up to 250kms plus no problem ? BTW do all V6s have 4 wheel discs ? I dont know if I asked that already. seriuosly when I drove the I4 it felt like a civic with 4 people in it and the stock handling is pretty floaty ? how is it when its dropped ? it must be much better ?
sr20: meet up with me sometime... my 5sfe isnt bad.. does the job well for me... only thing is like ray ray said.. up the mountains where oxygen is a bit low.. u will slow down.. that's a fact.. drove mine up to kelowna.. i was fast on flats.. until i got up on higher altitude.. it felt like it had a hard time.. i was switching from 3rd - 4th all the time...
as for v6 yeah they're pretty fast.. but suspension should be the same for all camry's they were made as grocery getters not performance cars... so if the shocks are shot they will do that... after my suspension mods though the car feels better less sluggish and better handling
as for 4whl disc brakes.. most of the v6 has 4whl discs... and only a few didnt opt for the ABS option so kinda easy to find those.. only thing is mileage on the car... PEAZS has a v6 gen 3 maybe if we meet up u can come out too... c ya round
its really hard to find a 5spd I4 locally, this might sound disapointing but I also lookin at 1993 Mazda 626 V6 5spds, there a bit cheaper than the Camrys but not as reliable
seriously, if you want a exciting car then you are looking at wrong car. Camry is for comfort and reliable. a 90 accord might be something that you are looking for? also, i drove a 2000 mazda 626 v6, it is not faster then my 5sfe solara. it is a POS. In my opinion, its the worst car you can get in this class.
I like older 626's they appeal to me and there roomy with a engine that has decent power the only downfall is that it doesnt have Toyota reputation
I mean I could talk shit about Camrys say that there for old ladies but I love all cars so I aint hatin. What the hell can I get for $6500 ? you tell me
one thing 90's accord they are the sh*ts .. seriously imean if there's a car with no torque and gutless that's the one.. im proud of my 5sfe.. but since u got urs turboed.. im assuming u just went straight to turbo.. but thats massive power hehehe...
in comparison stock 5spd accord to stock camry 5spd.. no contest.. its bigger.. better and quicker on the line... not to mention it looks more classier due to the design resemblance to the ES300 lexus...
sr20... sorry man its hard to find a 5spd.. like most of the guys on the board said.. and also if u even find one.. price maynot be within 6500 i would suggest gettin an auto and then doin a tranny swap.. that i can help u out with since u live in the lower mainland... hehee good luck car hungin... the chinese buy and sell has lots of nice cars on for the price u wanna pay i just hope u get a good one... and like he said dont get 626.. they are so junky!!! slow ass.. and unreliable..

i have a 92 v6 5spd, it is very quick. i can beat any stock civic consistently, ive beaten 1 eclipse gs-t auto on a short 0-60 run, integs, and just about any v6 domestic. as for mods i have a cold air intake and 2.5" catback.
the 5spds are very rare, the earlier the gen 3 it seems. ive heard that 0.9% of the camrys made were in the v6 SE 5spd trim level. its a nice car, and its definitely exciting to drive and mod. maybe the 5s autos are slow but the v6's do a good job

Back in May when I was looking for another car to replace my Camry, I saw two 1992/1993 Camry LE V6 5-spds in the Autotrader in the Toronto area. They were both around $7000 - $7500. The mileage was at about 160,000 kms I think.
