2nd Generation 1992 Camry CSI LTD Rear speaker removal

Hi there,
I need some help trying to remove the rear speakers from my '92 Camry CSI LTD. It looks the same as the 1991 models but I cant seem to figure out how the rear deck speakers are mounted. I've read on various places that all you have to do is to use a screwdriver or something sililar to pry the grills off, but when I tried that, the pins just snapped. Now that I can see the speakers clearly, I cant see any of the mounting screws or anything. The carpet on the deck covers everything except for the speaker cone. I tried looking from the boot and I can see the ends of screws sticking out from one of the speakers, but I cant figure out how to get to them.

Can anyone help me?

Regards

Hey man,

I installed rear speakers on both my gen 2 camrys, even tho there CS camry's :P, what you have to do is take the rear parcel shelf off. There are plastic covers over the bolts i beleive, fold your back seats, then carefully remove the parcel shelf. From there you'll see the 2 speakers on mounting brackets. WARNING what ever you do don't use a screwdriver here, the screws holding the speaker mounts are extremly soft. So use a socket wrench or something simular.

if you need more help pm me , i'm always here.

Cheers

wow, maybe your australian camry's are different... On the us sv21, all you have to do is pull off the speaker covers and unscrew the plastic thing that holds the speaker, and that's it

Yeah, the Australian camry is different, cos I tried to just pop off the covers, and all it did was snap one of the plastic pins....not to mention there are no screws visible from under the cover. The carpet just has a hole the exact size as the cone.

Thanks for the link fixtillbroke, but thats for the newer gen3 camry. I'm glad my camry isnt quite as difficult to dismantle as the gen3 one

Thanks for the help Ferrat, If I run into anything I'll send you a PM
