so being the goofball i am i didnt research before i bought speakers..now im reading horror stories about replacing speakers..bought the 6.5's for the front as well..nightmarish tales correlating to those also..cant win for losing sometimes i tell ya. so i sent out a couple of pm's but maybe i can get a faster response by just posting a new thread...has anyone tackled replacing all four speakers with any luck other than dremel tool..cutting..grinding..drilling? if not what is the best way to do this..front and rear i guess with as little modification as possible
LexusMan,
This is what you need for the rear http://www.car-speaker-adapters.com/items.php?id=SAK007 for 6x9 rear speakers. There is no nightmare in replacing speakers except time. You have to pull the rear seats and back shelf to correctly install them.
"so being the retard i am" IN the future could you please not use this phrase. I have a special needs child and find this offensive.

i also bought new 6.5 for the fronts...i guess the whole job isnt fun. might just send it into a stereo shop to have it done...something i thought would just be a normal plug and play isnt turning out to be so straight forward.

The adapters for the rear come in a pair and the round ones in the front will mount in the original mount.
On the rear I used silicone sealer between the speaker and the adapter and I also used small bolts with lock nuts so I knew that the speaker wouldn't every loosen and vibrate. The the whole assembly mounted back to the deck with the OEM holes/bolts.
so i looked at my stock speakers in the rear and they only have 3 mounting screws? that adapter u linked has 4 holes with no way to adapt to 3 hole mount? what in the world was toyota thinking when they did this?!
Get this. I've ordered several sets of adapters from the site. All camein fairly quick. The SAK007 works on the Gen3-Gen4. The Gen4 there has to be some slight modification (trim/shave), but for the Gen3 works fine. I installed new 6x9 in my friend's 1995 Camry yesterday.
Installation for the rear speakers on the Gen3 Camry is a breeze. The hardest part might just be trying to remove the 3rd mount brake light cover.

mounted my rears in,put the adapters in and also added some adhesive weather strip under the adapters and the difference is unbelievable..the speakers in the rear deck were hideous! whole job took about an hour..thanks for all the info and advice
It is time consuming because you need to take everything out (seats, side pillars, etc). The hardest part is getting the random clip to come out without breaking or flying them everywhere. Thankfully, toyota has enough sound deadening on the rear deck panel so things don't rattle half as bad. The actual metal deck, though, could use some.
Gen3/4 is about the same. Gen5 is alittle more time consuming but same process.
the most time consuming part was me cutting the weather strip and placing it around where the speaker adapters would rattle against the deck...other than that..piece of cake. seats came right out..side strips next to seat came right out...back molding and 3rd brake light assembly was no issue. getting the back molding piece back in was a little tricky getting the clips to go back.
