3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
This is my first post as I am looking at purchasing a 2000 Camry and was hoping to get a few questions answered.
First, let me describe the car:
2000 Camry LE, black w/tan interior, i4, AT, power on all most every thing, master craft tires on stock rims with hub caps, 65K miles, has what I think to be called the gold trim package.
Second, the car drives seemingly well; it does tend to pull to the left slightly at highway speeds. The engine has good power for an i4 but seems to be very noisy when idling. When I say noisy it really doesn’t seem to be bad noise, but just noisy. I opened the hood and tried to listen and it seems to be coming from the top of the engine.
Are the i4 normally noisy? (That’s the first questions)
Went to pull the dip stick to see of the dealer had even changed the oil and I had to pull hard to get the thing out. The O-ring to seal the dip stick broke right off. Also, the dip stick has a bend right at the end.
Is the bend on the end of the dip stick normal? And, is it usually that hard to pull the dip stick out? (#2 and #3 questions)
Half the dash lights seem to be out.
How difficult is it to change the bulbs in the dash? (#4)
The selling price for the car is $9,995.
I have looked all over and can not find another 2000 in that price range with that amount of miles. A least within a 100 miles.
And the final questions - Does that sound like a good price?
1) Yes, I have a 2k L4 camry also and I've noticed a slight 'clicking' noise in the head.
2) There is a bend about an inch from the end, and sometimes its hard to pull out. Not realy hard, but due to the fact that the stick bends and turns it can get 'caught' inside the tube.

Looks like it will be pretty easy to change the dash lights.
I am in southern Indiana and i'd post a pick, the dealer let me bring it home to look it over, but appears you have to host the image. Don't have the time put upload the image.

Thanks in advance for any input

You mentioned that half the dash lights are out. Not a good sign. I would think that a Toyota dealership especially, shouldn't be allowed to sell a car unless all the dash lights are working. You'd think they would have done a complete inspection of the car beforehand, right? Tell the guy to fix whatever isn't working. If he says no, walk away.
ches - I would agree; however, it's not a Toyota dealer. A local used car dealer and they already had the car aligned because of the pull to the left. Have to say they have been really help full. I work for an automotive lighting company so replacing the bulbs should be no problem. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't a pain in the a$$.
