1996 Camry Starting Problems

I have a 1996 Camry that had been sitting dormant for 1 1/2 years. When I went to pick it up a few weeks ago, the battery was dead. I jumped it and let it idle for a while, but once I shut it off, it would not start again. I got a new battery and got it running.

It was running pretty rough, so I filled the tank and put gas drier in to get rid of any condensation. It still runs like crap a week later. The automatic start is useless now as it cranks and shuts off. I have to hold the starter and give it a little gas until it starts and then hold it for a while until it warms up.

I read this on another forum:
disconnecting the battery will cause basic settings of the vehicle's computer to be erased (e.g. idle settings, fuel trim settings, transmission shift points, etc.)

Here, I am reading that the battery needs to be disconnected, but isn't 1 1/2 years long enough? All ideas are welcome otherwise this car will be crushed into a small block and used as a coffee table.

Thanks

well if you replaced the battery then all of those setting were reset anyway. You can disconnect the battery or you can pull the EFI fuse. Either way it only takes about 15 seconds or so.

More than likely it is going to take more than one tank of gas and some gas dryer. You will probably need to do some tune up work on it like fuel filter and plugs and all that good stuff. pull the intake tube off and try cleaning out the throttle body also.
