3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
So new '07 or used Gen 4??????? (Not a Gen5 fan, sorry)
I am feeling reeeeeally tempted right now after test driving the '07 last night, but after having some paint work done on my '98 recently, and as good as it's been running lately (even at 115,000 miles it's getting the best gas mileage of its life right now)......I'm definitely loving my Gen4 as much as ever.
Good, used Gen4's run around $5-$8K. A new '07 LE I-4 runs around $20-$22K.
That is a judgement call only you could make. Your asking us if you should buy a 5 year old car for 8,000 or a new car for 22$. I have some questions for you.
do you want a new car?
can you afford a new car if you want one?
is money an issue in this process?
do you like old cars?
how much do you want to spend on a car?
what is your main reason for getting another car?
ask yourself these questions and come up with an answer for your self.
the extra 12- 14$ thou gets you the good feeling of having a new car. The four cylinder camry should perform the same. slight boost on horse power but more weight to carry.

do you want a new car? Always
can you afford a new car if you want one? Yes
is money an issue in this process? Yes
do you like old cars? Some
how much do you want to spend on a car? As little as possible
what is your main reason for getting another car? Reliability, safety & smell
ask yourself these questions and come up with an answer for your self. Still undecided
the extra 12- 14$ thou gets you the good feeling of having a new car. That's an expensive feeling!
GEN 4 Camyrs are really good. My Camry bought it in 1998 and after 8yrs and counting still going like new. no major problem whatsoever other than the small things like spring and struts problem (easily fix). heaps of aftermarket parts. but with the 07 since they're new might be harder to find aftermarket parts
but if i were you i would get the 07, as its new and bigger interior (looks bigger to me)
Keep with the oldskool Gen4. I assume that your gen4 is paid for now. Even if you can afford to fiance it, is it worth an extra bill of $500-$700 per month? Unless you can pay cash for it, I say don't buy it.
It's YOUR money, YOU decide what YOU want to do with it, whether it is buying a new car, saving it, or using it towards something else. Some people are going to say keep the car you have now and others are going to say get the new car. It's a decision that only you can make as one of the posters above already stated.
