Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Hey folks. When I first bought my RIMS and tires I didn't know how much of a pain they would be. I've always wanted some nice rims to enhance the look of my car, but I don't know nearly what I should in determining the correct tire size, and they have cost me so much money and trouble:
The first question I have is 18 x 7.5 : I know 18 is the diameter of the rims, but is the 7.5 the width of the rims?
Pretty much when I got the rims I was running 215/35R18 and the ride was TERRIBLE. Then the right passenger front tire blew on the freeway and I took off the tire and LOW AND BEHOLD the inside portion of the tire was stripped down to the mesh. I tried putting air in the tires every so often because they seemed to lose some air due to all the potholes around. My second set of tires are 225/40R15 and I am pissed that I got these since they RUB like CRAZY if I go over a bump hard or if I have anyone in my back seat. I just found out yesterday that one of the rims CRACKED!!! I am so sad but I can't deal with this anymore. It's hairline crack on the outerwall of the inside rim but it's letting air out and I am going back to stock.
I have been reading some posts here before becoming a member, and I just am in too much of a hurry to continue having my 18's so i'm going back to stock rims.

yes.

A part of me wants to keep these rims, but i can't deal with all the rubbing. If I have anybody in the back seat it is extremely horrible. I don't know what offset means but I think my tires are too wide, but it still rubbed sometimes with the 205 tires. I really should have thought and planned more before getting these rims.. I am completely a noob with this
or you could drop down to 17x7 rims, make sure it has like an offset close to 40.

What exactly is the offset?
I got a set of 93 Lexus E300 Rims (or sth like that -from a friend) and they're just like the stock Camry rims, but they are aluminum. They're the regular old 15 inch rims but you know what... I enjoyed driving it today, and it held the road better than the 18's, and I didn't have to worry about having people in the back. The 18's were fun while they lasted I guess, but I have now chosen drivability over looks.
cant belive nobody cought this

you cant run r 15's on 18 inch rims. that would have to be r18. and i might get flamed for this but just add a spacer to your hubs and you might need to roll your fenders. the easy way to find out what size spacer is have some one tern the wheel and see where it is rubing. then find out how far you need to moveit out. also look at the struts and springs for rub marks.
....^R15 is the wheel diameter, so id have to be R18 for an 18" wheel.

LOL.. No i'm not that dumb, I didn't try putting 15R tires on 18 inch rims.. that was a mistype
As far as the 35's .. let me just say - they had the worst ride I've ever had, and I was scared for my rims, so then I got some 225/40's, but they rubbed more since they stuck out past the wheel well.
Damn I have 18x8 with a +35 offset and I still don't need to roll my fenders nor do I have any rubbing. I have 225/40/18 tires on. You must have an offset of +50mm or something crazy to rub with 7.5 wide wheels.
