96 Camry Wiper Relay

I am trying to resolve a problem with my front wipers on my Canadian 96 Camry Wagon LE. My intermittent wiper position no longer works. The wipers simply react as if the wiper switch is in the "low" position and also the wipers no longer "park" themselves but simply stop when the wipers are turned off. Everything else works. I think the wiper relay is at fault but where is this beast? Is it part of the wiper combination switch, is it within the motor housing ( which I doubt) or is it in one of the fuse/relay boxes (which I think is correct)? If the latter, which box and which relay? The owner's manual only refers to fuses, but not relays and the Haynes manual doesn't provide any information on where the relay is located for the front wipers. Is there any way to test the relay and what is the approx replacement cost for the relay (the wiper switch is $180 Cdn!)? Any help appreciated either posted to this forum or to me directly. Thanks for your help.

I am having the same exact problem. My toyota dealership couldn't figure out why it was doing that either, said it wasn't a common occurence.

Its NOT a common occurrence, in newer vehicles, but lets face it the Camry doesn't die! What you are referring to as the "Wiper Relay" is more commonly known as the "Combination Switch". Actually the wiper relay/switch is the right side of the combination switch which as far as I know you can NOT separate. This is located inside the steering column and has the switch "arms" for your lights, on the left, and your wipers, on the right. This is your problem. Why does it fail? How many times has it been switched since 1996? That may be why! It is a pain in the butt to swap and even harder to find outside of a junkyard but sometimes you can find them on eBay. This swap isn't at double black diamond difficulty but it is difficult! You may want to check the switch with a voltmeter before getting to carried away. Good Luck!
