so if i have the a/c on and come to a sudden stop the idle drop off and the car dies. starts right back up, but not sure why it stalls?? if no a/c it does not cut off...the idle still drops/trembles if i stop suddenly, but won't stall. tune up?? last tune up was in 1999 or 2000 at 85000 miles. car now has 142k.

Tune-Up: Change spark plugs, wires, distributor cap/rotor, and clean the Throttle body. You should be good to go.

Yeah you are due for a tune up, you should also get the EGR system looked at as it is probably sticking open, also see if woever you take it to offers an intake cleaning service.

thanks for the input guys. are the plugs from toyota pregapped or do i need to gap them?

The 3vz-fe needs platinum tipped plugs, they do not neet to be gapped
