Hi Guys,
Have 125k miles on my camry. I suspected my alternator of starting to fail. So I tested with an analog volt meter, seemed ok but was getting a growling in the area. I removed the belt to the alternator and the growling cleared up. Also, was getting slight flickering in the dash lights.
So, I put in a rebuilt Denso, In the process I unmounted the passenger side fuse box for clearance. Also, (dumb move), I forgot to disconnect the ground from the battery. The alt. positive cable slipped from my have and grounded on the old alternator case.
Once the new alt. car started up fine. But now the dash instruments don't work. Neither do the elec. door locks, brake light, most dash lights. Oh, and the head lights stays on after I remove the key, I remember that they used to turn off. Maybe I'm remembering incorrectly there.
The Haynes manual only has generic electrical diagrams. So not sure where to continue searching. I checked all the fuses in the in the box next to the radiator and the fuse box along the driver side adjacent the fender, none seem appear poped. Not sure how that would happen anyway. Is it possible a relay was affected?
Appreciate any help.
