Stem Seals - How Distinguish Intake vs Exhaust..?

1996 Camry V6 169,000 miles.
-------------------------------------

I've got this bag of 24 FelPro Stem Seals coming soon, photo posted below.

Apparently there are no instructions for distinguishing between the seals for the intake vs exhaust, is it possible to put the wrong ones in the wrong places..?

How can I distinguish between the two stem seal types..?

I put FelPros in my 3VZ-FE, and it was obvious which was which. Exhausts were shorter and different colored.

Looking at the FelPro set in your pic and online, it doesn't look like the 1MZ uses different ones, exhaust Vs intake.

If they're all together, they will fit either (all made to the higher spec, i.e., to withstand heat on exhaust side).

Careful, I've gotten private label wholesaler closeout Fel-Pros before (but for 5S-FE) that were not even the right size. 5S-FE Fel-Pro kit has two bags, one for intake and another for exhaust. Those are Viton (explicitly stated), but the SS72878 for the 1MZ just say "premium"...ideally you want Viton, much harder-wearing than rubber.

My felpro set came in felpro box with two different bags inside, explicitly labeled for intake and exhaust. I didn't actually check whether there was any difference. Got them from rockauto. Had an issue where the first box rockauto sent me did not contain felpro gaskets - somebody substituted them and returned. They sent me a new box with correct felpro seals and all was well with installation - the car no longer smokes on startup, and has been running well for a few months now.

Rockauto still show the same for intake and exhaust for FelPro. But they also have intake or exhaust only. Wonder if they just changed packaging. Yeah we usually go Viton, but can't really tell.

I don't think any smart supplier is selling polyacrylate any more for these sludge monsters. But other makes do use fancy seals, like European premium brands use teflon seals at various places. Those hardly leak anything but require very precise fit. Don't think those will show up for Camry.
