3rd Generation Brake and Tranny Problem

My 1993 v6 camry (automatic) is stuck in "Park". The gear lever is stuck and wont move from 'P'. The problem is that the car is not receiving the brake information. The car can brake, but the brake lights wont light up (the bulbs are fine). What is causing this brake and transmission problem?

That sucks. Have you had any recent brake jobs? Your best bet is to download the Toyota Service Manual in the sticky section for the Gen3 Camry and go to the transmission section and take it from there.

If the brake lights are not working, the brake light switch may be bad or is not engaging. The same switch might be used for the brake/shift lever safety system. This prevents the shift lever from moving unless the brake is applied. The brake switch is located under the dash in the area where the pedal connects to the cars frame. Might be the Stop fuse.

You can bypass the safety system by prying up a small tab on the shift console to the left of the shift lever. Push down on the white area under the tab and move the lever.

agreed brake switch. check it for power, check it for ground, and then check if the power travels when you push the pedal down.
