Brake lights aren't broken, I just don't brake.
--Can honestly go to a parts counter and ask for brake shoes for the front brakes.

Thanks everyone, I was kinda rushed and I actually found the picture by searching before there was a reply (same post as noted above), but it did take about 20 relatively complex searches that led to someone suggestiong brungold's name and a search thread that did not return the post, but a more generic search for author "brungold" and topic "seafoam" got me to that post (along with many others, oy!).
Here's the pic in case someone mistakenly references this thread in their searches:
Went great, did it tomy '95 passat (last car, what a piece) and it was similar ... the smoke was thick and it certainly feels more responsive. I'll never know about milage, just got the car, never had to fill the tank (only driven 50 miles or so, then this problem). Sure runs totally smooth, silent at idel w/windows up, no vibration or noise ... fantastica car, hopefully cleaning the throtle body and replacing the negative battery wires has solved the problem permanently (can't even really call it intermittent ... just happened once and went away after rev'ing to keep the speed up until it "took" (otherwise, taking my foot off resulted in the car dying).
That is a messed up avatar ASG14, though the guy on it reminds me of Lieberman
Avatar, that's a long story from MANY months back, haha.
I like Lieberman, so I'm keeping quiet.
since you just got the car
1: If not recently done:
A: Replace the Spark Plugs. PLATINUM.
B: Spark Blug Wires.
2: Check the Dogbone (Torque Strut) engine mount attached to your pass side strut area. they tend to rip fairly easyily and can cause vibration.
Do you have a pic of the dogbone/torque strut or can you describe what I'd be looking for when I check it out?
Wires and plugs are Toyota OEM from a relatively recent tuneup, should be okay for now, but you're right and I'll be changing them sooner rather than later.
