3rd Generation major problems

so i was driving on the highway today, car was running fine when i started to notice my car was like losing power almost. so i slowed down and tried to accelerate back up to 65 but it wouldnt accellerate, my rpm guage just went up and it wouldnt shift. then the temp started to rise so i pulled off to the side and smoke is pouring out of the engine coolant resevoir. what is wrong with my car

What cap was this, the radiator cap or the coolant overfull tank cap?

With the engine cold, check for damaged and broken coolant hoses, radiator leaks (cracks in plastic top and bottom). These hoses can be large or small. Could be a defective thermostat.

The thermostat probably went bad and overheated the engine resulting in loss of power, and lots of coolant everywhere. I don't know where the whole rpm went up thing comes from though.

3rd Generation

i had kinda the same problem today with the exception of the smoke. My car was drivin fine at first then it started to accelerate by itself while i was driving. i started to brake and it felt hard for some reason so i pulled over and when the car went down to 0mph, the car revved up to five rpm all by itself and just geared up really loudly. i put it in park and pulled the hand brake and it still did the same thing til i shut off the engine. i tried starting it up again a few times and it kept revving up to five rpms so i drove back home, waited and started it up and it worked just fine but i dont know wat caused it. i think a piece of plastic flew into the throttle somehow but im not sure, im gonna drive home now so i can update you guys on the situation.

sorry for the add to your post. hope you get that car checked out, my car keeps overheating as well no matter that i changed my thermostat and hoses and cleaned the coolant recovery tank hose. so we both are probably on the same boat (i'd say Camry but boat is the usual response)

:-D
