Not necessarily. Too much advance and you can get pinging. Too retarded and the car is sluggish. I suppose if it was significantly off in either direction you could have what could be called a misfire. What is the nature of the problem?

A vehicle in need of a basic tune-up would feel similarly. What is the age/condition of the plugs, cap, wires, and rotor?

1993 with 125,000 miles on it, changed the plugs, wires, oil, and filters on it last month. I dont know how to check the rotor if its good or not.

Take the cap off. Inspect the inside for corrosion on the contacts. Inspect the rotor for corrosion. If they've never been changed, it due.

Wait a minute, I thought the 1MZ-FE V6 engine uses coil packs. So, there shouldn't be any cap and rotor, right? I don't see any on mine?

He said it's a '93. That would make the V6 a 3VZ-FE. Unless it's different than our '93 V6
3VZ-FE, there is a cap and rotor.
