3rd & 4th Generation (19921996 & 19972001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Got into a medium sized accident where the car hit the rear left of my Camry. Between the fuel door and rear tailight. A fairly big hit that doesn't look like it's dent-fixable. The hit is bigger then the size of my head, and deep enough for it to move the carpet and body molding from inside the trunk. How would I look for replacement parts for something like that. It looks like the whole part is connected to the roof of the car and to the other side. It's not like a fender where you'd replace one piece.
Also, after the hit, the Camry slid into a curb with the front right wheel hitting the curb. Now the steering wheel doesn't drive straight when the wheels are pointed forward. The wheel is about 30 degrees to the left now for me to be able to drive straight. Would an alignment fix this? Also, now it feels like that rear left strut rubs onto the wheel, I highly doubt that there's strut damage, but it rubs on bumps now.
I'll still take this to a body shop and see how this works out for an estimate, but for now, what's your estimate on fixing this?
I'll probably take pictures tomorrow morning if necessary.

Yup...it is all one panel so it will have to be cut out and welded back in. I have a dent in my left rear quarter panel too...was like that when I got it so not gonna spend the $$ to fix it. Just hoping if I have an accident it is on that side

Any idea of how much this should cost? $500 or so?
Edit: How would I go about on fixing the problem with the steering? It seems like the steering wheel is just misaligned with the direction the wheels point. Maybe a simple 2 or 4 wheel alignment may fix this? Or would I need to bring this to a repair shop to check out the axles.

replacing panel is not necessary, it would cost a lot of money.
w/ the crease thats on the panel, the body work would be about 750 at a local bodyshop, and will look good as new.
theres no axle for the back wheels. as for as the alignment, any shop can determine if the suspension is crooked or not. i was hit at teh same spot and the shock was bent.

I mean the axle for the front wheel. After getting hit, the car slid into a curb with the front right wheel hitting it and scraping against it. That made the steering wheel be misaligned with the way the wheels are pointed. For example, when the wheels are pointed forward and the car is going in a forward direction, the steering wheel is turned 30 degrees to the left for the car to be able to drive straight.
I think the strurt might've been bent in the rear too, because excessive rubbing occurs on dips or bumps in the road, even in turning.

i see what you mean. i remember mine cause an excessive steering misalignment.

Was the accident your fault or someone else's? ....If someone hit you I wouldnt worry about cost and let their insurance pay for it...unless you are trying to cut cost and make alittle on the deal
Actually my friend was driving it. He rushed out of an alley and didn't yield right of way, the oncoming car hit the side of the camry. That's why the momentum pushed the front right wheel onto the curb. Barely any damage to the other person's car, it was a Plymouth mini-van that had a bit of bumper damage and fenders shifted a bit.

Just got an estimate from a well-known body shop. They said it would be $1,800. That's to guarantee me that they'll fix it. They'll first try to fix it without replacing, but if that still doesn't look good, they'll replace it as well. He said there is a chance of frame damage cause the insides look bent. The rear bumper will be replaced as well.
