Canada Camry V6 1997 Power Steering Pressure Hose

A dealer advised me that I need to replace Power Steering Pressure Hose which is leaking. I have a Camry XLE V6 and has only done 105,000 klm. Did any one have this kind of problem? The dealer also suggested that I replace a cylinder head gasket which is also leaking. The pressure hose cost # 800.00 including labor. The part cost is $ 575.00. Can I trust the dealer or should I do some thing else first? Please advise.

When was the last time the timing belt was changed? If it was never changed, I would think its about time It was changed. How bad is the head gasket leaking? Are you using synthetic oil? Sometimes it leaks through giving the impression that the head gasket is busted.

mate its seems strange that you have a busted head gasket at only 100,000 km. Same with the power steering hose. and thats insane money for a hose.

Take it to a different mechanic and grab a 2nd opinion.

The oil is not dripping from the valve cover gasket. (I made a mistake, the oil actually leaks from valve cover and not cylinder head) since I do not see any marks on the floor where I park my car. So it seems there may be slight leak. I am changing the timing belt for the first time on Monday. Will forget for now the issue of power steering pressure hose as it does not seem serious at all at this time as advised by a private garage. With the timing belt, I have been advised by a private garage to change the kit as well which consinsts of some bearings etc. I am also replacing the water pump and the spark plugs at the same time. My car again is 1997 Camry V6 which has done only 105,000 Klm.

My mistake. The leak is from the valve cover gasket and not cylinder head gasket. It is leaking slightly. I am going to have it replaced at the same time I am having timing belt replaced together with its kit and spark plugs as well. A private garage told me that there is no need to change the power steering pressure hose. It shows that there is slight leak. Nothing is dripping on to the floor where I park my car. The mechanic also advise that if and when there is a need to replace, what he does is that he sends the hose to some specialist who takes off all the hardware from the old hose and refits them perfectly to a new hose only. This process saves a lot of money.

I just had the pressue hose replaced on my 2000 4 cyl. I took it to the deal to get it diagnosed first, but had a local mechanic do the work. Unfortunately the part was still $400 as no after market part was available. So the job with labour came out to be about $600.

I was advised that it should be done or I was risking losing the powersterring pump ...which apparently could be costly (even more than the hose) to replace.

my return hose was leaking and my valve cover gasket was leaking only at 89xxx. but at the end it all depend on if the owner or previous owner keep up the maintenances.
