double ground spark plugs necessary???

I installed some replacement bosch single ground plugs that Auto Clone (zone) sold me only to skim my owners man to find the "only use double ground..." statement.

Is this really an issue?

For Toyotas, people generally recommend NGK or Denso plugs.

Double ground plugs are not absolutely neccessary, but they last longer. Gen 4 Camry 4 cylinder engine uses a waste spark ignition system which means that the spark plug fires twice during each 4 stroke cycle. It fires once from the center to the ground, and once from the ground to the center. Because the electrodes will erode twice as fast, they put twice as many electrodes to make the plugs last as long as plugs in an ignition system that does not use waste spark. For this reason, the recommended spark plugs are double platinum (platinum on the center and the ground).

I just bought the Denso plugs from the toyota dealer and they were $8.95 each

Ouch on that price! I will stick with my $1.15 bosch plugs for now and change them later on.

68: What type of Bosch plugs cost $1.15 each? Did you use copper plugs? If they're copper you'll need to change those out more often which will probably end up being the same cost as the Denso double platinums.

The Denso plugs can be had at Autozone for $6 ea. For about $11, you can get Denso Iridium which are supposed to deliver more power, but not last as long.

Denso's part number, IIRC, is PK20TR11 for the Gen 4 2.2l I4 spark plugs.

Sorry but I tossed the boxes and receipt so I do not know the PN. I know they said platinum and were bosch.

i got the bosch platinum 4's and i ended up paying like 5$ a plug

I am using NGK V grooves, copper plugs, BRK6EY11 that were selling for $4 CDN a pair, so I scooped several sets. The only place to get Denso/ NGK double grounded plugs here are Ebay sellers... which have screwed me before, and the Dealer which cost about 12.50 CDN Each.
