4th Generation Tire still rubs against strut in rear left, ideas?

I got the rear left struts, springs, and spindle replaced. The rear left tire still rubs against the strut when weight is on it or when taking a corner. One mechanic says it's possible that there's frame damage that moved the way the strut is mounted at the top. Another says the tires too big, but then I moved up from 205/65/15 to 215/50/17, the diameters should be the same.

Any ideas? Its a pretty big and loud rub, especially when there's anyone sitting in the back seats. I got it aligned before spindle was replaced. I might get it aligned again now to see if it improves.

What's the offset of your wheels? It looks like you had the 17's on before the accident, which means that you didn't have rubbing issues prior to that?

Yeah, I had the 17s on before the accident and no rubbing whatsoever beforehand.

The diameters of the tires might be the same but you went to a wider 215 tire instaed of a 205 you were running....were you running the 215's prior to the accident or the 205's ??

He already answered that question. He said he ran the 17s before and had no issues. the 205 series tires applied only to his 15 stocks.

It'll be hard for us to just randomly guess at a problem like this without more pictures or details. I would suggest taking it to the alignment shop, since you need to get an alignment anyway. The guys there (assuming they're competent) should easily be able to figure out what's going on. My guess is that with a problem like this, your alignment's going to be way out of whack anyways.

I have pictures of the crash in the link above in Post #1. The wheel well doesn't look as if there's anything specific to see. I already had a 4-wheel alignment done before replacing the spindle. I don't really want to pay $80-100 for an alignment that won't be guaranteed to solve it. I'll probably bring it to a body shop and see what they say.
