3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
im looking to get an injen intake. the thing is they have one for 1997-99' and one for 00'-01'. price difference is like $50, but the one for 00-01 comes with a heat shield. my question is the engine are the same so why are there two diff intakes? can i just get the one for 97-99?
for the 00-01, the heat shield is included. i just dont know if i can just get the 97-99 intake
If your Camry is a 97-99, get the 97-99.. You can always custom build a heatshield later...
If your Camry is a 00-01, go with that one..
As easy as that...
Engines are supposed to be the same but remember that for years 2000-2001 the Camry experienced some changes.. I'd go with the one that matches my car's built year..
experienced changes but doesnt matter, intakes are universal for 4 and 4.5.. they just included a heatshield for the 00-01 models, their reason isnt known.
ill tell you straight out that unless its a CAI, it wont make a difference. heat shield or not.
Like mentioned before, get the one for your year. A heat shield costs around $20 or so. I know because I bought an AEM short ram intake w/o a heat shield and bought a universal one a little after for cheap.
Yeah, if you live in California then you definately need something that's 50 state legal. Injen probably does, but TRP doesn't I would bet. Wow am I glad I don't live in an anal emissions state. That would suck to have to worry about that all the time. Good ole' Minnesota.
Heat shield wont do anything, we just had a huge thread on this basically when the cars moving the engine bay temps are within 20*f of the ambient (outside) temperature.

All Injen intakes for Camrys are C.A.R.B. certified, meaning that it's legal in all 50 states. You don't have to carry around a document saying that, just show the dumb cop the CARB sticker that's already physically engraved in it.
Yes, your car will pass smog (in CA) if you have it installed, so no worries.
Only way you WON'T pass smog is if you have a TRP CAI in there, since TRP hasn't considered CARB for awhile now.
cuz me being a dumbass i threw it away, so i need something 50 state legal. maybe i can get a TRP CAI extension and install it.
the injen sri does come with a carb legal sticker on it to show that it is legal in all 50 states. =]. i bought mine for my gen 4 (97). honestly i dont notice a difference unless im going 70+ but even then it might just be in my head.
