4th Generation 2001 Camry random stalling.

Hello, my mom has a 2001 Camry four banger and the auto trans it has almost 100,000 miles. Every once and awhile, maybe every 3 weeks or so, when driving and only while driving itll start running really rough like its getting too much fuel or a its dropping a cyclinder. If you catch it doing this and rev the car till around 3-4 grand itll stop, if not it will stall out and take a few minutes to restart. It isnt throwing a CEL. Anyone have any ideas what it could be?

similar symptoms

I have a 96 camry 4cyl auto with 188K. I get this rich stalling condition intermittantly also. I have narrowed the stalling down to after a long highway ride. The car is fine for under 20 minute trips in any conditions. Once the car threw an EGR code. (1) I had a shop do a 3 part liquid cleaner and the code has never returned, but the condition remains. (2) I had another shop diagnose a crack in a spark plug porcelyn, but the condition remains. I understand that the ERG and tube ((1) above) is a $600 job. Too much to go for just a guess. I will continue to drive this until we can narrow down the precise symptoms and cause. Please feel free to opine. The car runs and drives very well otherwise.

Tough but all i can guess is it must be heat related? Maybe the coolant sensor has dirt contacts...weird it wont give a code, so maybe it is a mechanical flaw. I would guess distributor but your car doesnt have one -
