I know i am new at this, but how do take apart the face dash of the radio inorder to get to the inside of the cigarette lighter. Also How can I splice the wire in my 4 neon lights to attach to the cigarette lighter? Or is there another power source I can use that is safer?
Hopefully one of you guys can supply me with detailed instructions. Thanx

Theres 2 screws that you have to remove then the panel just pops off. I think thats all there is to it (I forget). Can someone with a gen 3 verify this?

I recommend that you use a 12V automotive relay. You'll use the +12V wire of the cigarette lighter to trigger the relay. Make sure that you verify this wire with a DMM before you splice into it.

This is the wiring info for the relay:

87 - +12V constant
87a - Not used
85 - Ground
86 - +12V wire from cigarette lighter
30 - Output to neons. Wire the positive wire of the neons to this.

You can switch 85 and 86 around. It doesn't matter as long as you don't wire ground and +12V to the same terminal.

It doesn't matter as long as you wire everything up correctly.

The +12V wire on the cigarette lighter is a switched source though. That wire only sees +12V when the ignition is on. So if you wire everything up like I said the neons will turn on whenever the ignition is on. If you want to be able to turn them on and off you can wire a SPST switch inline with the +12V of the neons.

Heres a diagram of the relay if you need it:

If it was me, I wouldnt even fool with a relay as long as your not wiring 100 lights to your cigarette lighter, they only use about an amp each light. I got a 96 camry and I just got thru puttin my lights in last night. pop the radio cover off by taking a small flathead screwdriver and prying the very bottom, right under the radio, up just a little. It should pop out after doing this. Theres two plugs going into the lighter. Use the plug closest to the top, its shaped like a backward L. If I remember straight, the wire on the right the the ground, Its white and black, and the other wire on the bottom is the hot one. Check em with a tester first tho to be sure. Splice them and run them to the proper sides of the light wires. If you want to throw a switch in there just connect the ground wire from the cigarette socket straight into the light wire and take the other positive wire and run it into a switch and run the output from the switch to the hot wire in the light. I mounted my switch over there on the left of the steering wheel right next to the red LED light for the keyless entry. Looks nice, I put two mini blue neons in mine right under the dash, one on the passenger and one on the drivers side. The hardest part of it is feeding the wires through the dash, use a coat hanger. Have fun

Doh.. Yeah Concord is not to far from Sacto.

SPST = Single Pole Single Throw

Its just a simple on/off switch with 2 prongs/connections on it.

I'll try and do my best. I drew up a wiring diagram for you. I'll post it up in the other thread about the neons.

Heres the wiring diagram. I decided to post it here to.

The one from the cigarette lighter is used to trigger (turn it on/off) the relay. A relay is nothing more then a electromechanical switch.

The one going to the battery supplies a constant +12V to the relay that gets switched to 30 (output to your neon tubes) whenever +12V is applied to 85.

You should of posted just one thread on the neons instead of two and read all of my other posts cos I explained how everything works.

Just wire everything up according to my diagram and it'll work fine unless you do something wrong.

Connect 87 and 85 together and install a SPST switch in between. When the switch is turned on, the relay is triggered by a direct current from the battery.

That would work but, why go through the trouble of wiring up a relay if your gonna do that.

If you want to manually turn the neons on/off just wire them up directly to the battery and put a SPST switch inline.

You (GreCam96) need to decide what you wanna do. If you want them to turn on when the ignition is on and turn off when the ignition is off use the relay and my wiring diagram above.

If you want to be able to turn them on/off whenever you want just use a SPST switch and don't even bother with the relay. You could even use a switch for each neon and turn each one on and off indepentdently or you can just gang em all up to one switch and all of them will turn on/off at the same time.

I gave you all my answers and now its up to you to decide what you wanna do.

Well good luck with whatever you decide to do.

I don't mean to be an a** or anything but, if you understood my diagram why did you have to ask about the 2 power sources?

I think he wants to have the option of turning them on without putting in the key...hence the need for the manual switch....right GreCam?
