3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Hey gang...have a question about the maximum tire size for a Gen 3..in my case the 95 1MZ sedan. I'm needing to get some studded tires for the car as it's snowing here in Anchorage now and I was able to pick up some nearly brand new studded tires from another guy here on base that is leaving for free. Problem is i'm currently running 205/65R15 Kumhos *summer* and the ones I got are 225/75R15. I've been searching around and have got some info on 255's and some tire rubbing issues with other tires but nothing really on this. Can anyone tell me if these tires will fit my rims/car, or point me in the direction of a site that will? I've been trying to check with tirerack, and other tire calculators but nothing that will tell me yes or no on fitment. Much apprecaited guys!
understood, but right now these are free, almost new and umm...free. Seeing as how I need to put tires on my car and my wifes car...a free set would be great. If they won't fit then I'm just going to try and sell them and order me some new ones.
I don't think 255 would fit.. I think the max Ive seen is 235 and depending on the wheel offset it rubs.. But I can't tell you 100% sure..
Let's wait for some more inputs

If you want, I can post up a 235-75-15 (Ford Explorer) mounted on a wheel sitting next to a unmounted 205-65-15 (Honda Accord). PM me if you want to see that, and which views.
Most likely the tires will fit within the cars wheel wells, but like "ASG14" says there is a 11% difference in the tire circumference. Your speedometer will indicate your speed incorrectly with an error of 11%. For an example, the speedometer will indicate 45 mph when your actual speed is ( 45 x 1.11 = ) 49.95 mph. I think that for the price of the tires, I would go ahead and run them.
Yea, I already knew it was going to throw the speedo off. For me it was mostly that fact they are free. I already have them, just haven't installed them yet as I wasn't sure if they were or not. My car is the daily driver, my wifes is just for errands or going to get togethers for her and my son and other mom and tots. So it was fairly important I get some tires on my first and then her's second. Figure with the holidays here, plus my sons birthday, not to mention everything else I still need for the winter...free is great if it works!

A 225 will fit that's not an issue. The issue is that you should have a 7-8 inch wide rim to place it on. I believe the stock rims are only 6.5. Give tirerack a call and doublecheck. They're always very helpful. It's usually easier to have a set of wheels/tires for summer and another set for winter than 2 sets of tires and 1 wheel that you have to keep remounting. Jon.
225/75R15 will probably not fit without rubbing...
people forge that those of us who run 225 series tires have low profile tires usually
when placed on a 15" rim, that's ALOT of sidewall (75???) and chances are also that the sides will bulge out a bit and rub the fender lip a bit. to make them fit, the offset of the rims will have to be PERFECT.
my buddy's car had 225/50/16 or 225/55/16 and the rears were rubbing like mad on the outside lip, and there was basically no clearance on the inside even if the offset of his rims were a bit different
