4th Generation Surging - Fuel Problem?

My 1999 Camty V6 LE 5spd is having problems.

Under hard accelaration, the engine will suddenly cut power speratically. The engine does not turn off, but it surges violently. This only happens under hard accelaration.

The thing is, that when the fuel tank is full, it will perform fine. Once the tank starts dropping below 3/4 - 2/3 full, the surging begins. It seems that it gets progressivly worse the lower the fuel tank is.

I have changed the fuel filter, and the problem still remains.

I have a Walbro 190 Lph fuel pump that I was going to install with my supercharger. Would it be OK to go ahead and install the Walbro 190 Lph fuel pump on a stock application?

I do not want to damage the engine.

Anyone have any advice?

putting the new aftermarket fuel pump in will not hurt anything. it has a capability of 190lph, but unless you change how much fuel is getting dumped in by the computer through tuning it will still be the same. if it still occurs after putting the new pump in, then it is most likely your injectors.

it sounds like it could be a fuel pressure thing since you say that when the tanks is full you have no problems.

it wouldn't hurt by any means to install the new pump- 190lph isn't over doing anything, and most of the solara guys use it.

myself, I'll be installing my 255 in the next week to help my fuel problems since I installed my s/c. But since the gen3 has a return fuel system, I can control it with an aftermarket FPR unlike the gen4 returnless system.

Maybe the fuel tank is broken inside? The baffles are broken off inside perhaps - or maybe the fuel pump could be the problem, as the others say, maybe the fuel filter sock on the pump is clogged or some other restriction.

Issues have been resolved. The Walbro 190 Lph fuel pump has done a good job. It is alot louder than the OEM stock pump though. Gas milage has decreased a little as well.

nice to know about the extra noise, thanks. the fuel mileage is probably due to having proper fuel pressure again.

4th Generation Fuel pump issue

Did you ever have yours stall out on you at all, mine's surging but it's also stalling out badly. Just curious if you had the same problem. I'm getting somewhat over here.
