Question How to read Check engine light code?

My 2000 camry V6 just started idling very rough this morning on my way to work.
It seems to be idle surging... Finally emmited a check engine light.

Before taking it to the dealer tomorow, I would like to know if there is a self diagnostic trick
that I can do to pull the code myself?

I know my old Talon I could turn the key to the on position and plug in an led into 2 pinouts on the harness under the dash and it would blink the code for you...

Does the 2000 Camry have a similar self diagnosis trick?

Many thanks

The best bet would go to you local Sears adn buy there 69.00 dollar actron obd pocket scaner. That way you can pull the code write it down adn go to OBD-CODES.com adn find th Pxxxx nuber it will tell u what the code titile.

That way when you take it to the dealer you know exactly what code it is.
So say you have a p0708 code which is trans neutral senor voltage to high. which mosty likey be a bad ground, they cant say that the trans is burn't up and you need a new one. This can also be useful to test to see if the techincain is honest.

But when you read the code don't erase it or when you take it to them it might not show.

ok, so which kind of code reader do I need to buy?
I know there are a few different models on the market... OBD1, OBD2 etc?

Would the one I need also work for my 97 tacoma?

Both Camry and Tacoma will be ODBII. Suggest you do a TN search for threads on specific models of code readers recommended by members.

On the 1996 Camry (ODBII), for both the I4 and V6 engine, cose P0110 is:

Intake Air Temp Circuit Malfunction

Open or Short in intake air temp sensor circuit

Right,

But what/where is the Intake Air Temp sensor?
This wouldn't be the MAF sensor would it? Because I just removed the MAF and sprayed it with electrnic cleaner and reassembled. Still no luck.

prnc, stop showing off!

Morley, I'm personally not sure. Now that the code is here (I think the code is the same as the '00 Camry), someone is sure to post soon that will know better,
