Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
My friend owns a civic hatchback and instead of attaching the intake pipe and then the filter, he only attached the intake filter directly to where the pipe should have been. Is this safe for my '94 v6 camry?
short ram u dont gain much at all....cold air intake (CAI) u gain more

^ EXACTLY. I know people that do this as well...and it's a horrible idea because the filter gets waaay to hot and melts. That is the point of the pipe...to get the filter farther away from heat. Don't do it, you would be MUCH better of with your stock intake box with a K&N filter.
there is an idea of having it as close as possible to get the readings on intake temp and ect or w/e close to the engine. Therefore the most correct and accurate, im not totally sure about it. If i remember ill try to find the post about it tom
cold air u gain more...short ram is sucking in hot air..IMO

If you plan on racing somebody and want some extra hp, take out all the unneccesary stuff in your car eg... spare tire and other junk that you have in your car that weighs a lot.
Next take out the headlamp assembly (you'll get a pretty good increase in hp by doing this with a simple shortram intake.
If you really want to tune your civic, swap the motor with either the b18c1-6 motor found in inetgras. The b16a motor out of the civic si is also a good choice.
search for short ram vs CAI and youll find a lot of topics on this... the cliff notes is neither will give you a terribly huge gain, but theoretically a CAI will give you slightly more than a SRI
We have been over this before lol, when the car is moving the air temps in the engine bay are so close to ambient air temps outside the car the slightly cooler air isnt worth the extra pipe.
Dont believe what intake companies are telling you, all they want is to sell their product and nothing says they cant do something like dyno their intake without the exhaust on so it definatly shows more power.
