Another freakin problem, help!!!

I haven't even fixed the problem I have with the engine oil leaking and now I have another problem with this damn camry. Maybe they are related some how?

I started to notice this new problem a few weeks back and didn't really think much of it. At first I was thinking sludge build up in the engine. But the last few days the problem got nasty. The problem is, when I gently put my foot on the throttle pedal the car starts almost "jumping" like someone would press hard on the gas pedal and let go right away and again and again...it will jerk like that until I actually do press hard on the gas pedal and the car will start driving normally. It will jerk like 3-4 times and when I push the gas pedal harder it will drive. Also on turns sometimes the car BARELY rolls even if I'm pushing hard on the gas pedal. You can hear the engine going crazy but it wont speed up until I complete the turn....doesnt matter if I turn right or left.

So does this sound like a tranny problem or something else like throttle body? fuel pump?

I'm getting a new car in about 3 weeks but I still have to drive this camry to work every day and this problem is getting real bad. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks all.

I haven't had any time to mess with the cam yet...but the problem is getting real bad...its real bad especially in the beginning of the drive. Today in the morning I warmed up the car and had my foot on break and then put it into Drive and it did the jerked forward about 3-4 times(feels like if i was pressing the gas pedal hard for a split second and letting it go real quick) But once again after a few jerks by pressing the gas pedal harder the car will start going with no problem.

check your rubber air snorkle and vacuum hoses for leaks. If you have the V6, the rubber air intake snorkle gets brittle and develops cracks in the crevices which affects cold start performance like this at low speeds.

Other things:

Your TPS may have a dead spot.

By this part of the description I would think a transmission problem. First off check the fluid level. If the engine is behaving normally and the car is simply jerking, it's a transmission problem. I don't think any engine trouble could transmit through a slushbox well enough to give the pulsing symptoms you're describing. ... Of course i never drive an auto so I really dont know...

But yeah the tps may be on the fritz as well. I'd check out the transmission first right now. Just check the dipstick when the car is cold... It's best to start the car, put your foot on the brake and work it through all the gears (leaving the car in gear for a few seconds) then turn it off and check the fluid. At least that's what i've heard. Like I said I got no experience with automatic transmissions, so anyone who does could probably tell you the correct way.

Good luck!

if youhace a 1mz then the problem might be the mass air flow sensor. does the engine bogg or shake violently?

The engine sounds good and doesn't shake violently at all.

Sounds like TPS... you can test it w/ a multimeter...

but if it has a dead spot you can't see it unless you hook it up to a lab scope...

bring it in to a shop
