don't quote me on this ( i could be wrong because this is hearsay) but i've been told that rebuilding a tranny is generally more expensive than getting a new/ allready refurbished one put in. again, that's just what i've heard from my tranny killing neighbors.
Holy crap! I'm pretty sure that the price cut off for this car is about $1500. My dad's mechanic gave me the name/number of a the only guy in my region that'll work on toyota trannies, so I' guess I'll try to talk to him and update you guys.
yeah, i would totally get a low mileage used tranny from somewhere and find a shop that's good to put it in for you. Dealerships always tend to be super expensive by comparison to the other local shops.
...there's only liek 6 camries in any junk yard around here, and the owner or the yard didnt' even know they came in 5spds...
Total bummer. There is some place in Blaine that has a ton of parts, engines, and transmissions for virtually everything. I don't remember the name though, just remember seeing the commercial for it.
3.538:1 first gear ratio,
2.045:1 second gear ratio,
1.333:1 third gear ratio,
0.972:1 fourth gear ratio,
0.731:1 fifth gear ratio and
3.583:1 reverse gear ratio
no idea on the final for the ratio's i think the repair manual should have it. my brother has the repair manual and i dont feel like asking him now.
it should bolt up even if it was for the 2az i think they have the same bell housing. only thing i think might not work is if they changed the axles (inner stub area) and the mounting bracket.
i just looked up the prices for them in florida. there about 700 for a 2006! if i knew that when i did my swap i might of opted for that.

I'm rebuilding my S-51 just bearings and seals. that's going to run me about $600 for tools and parts. depending on what's wrong with your trans you may be able to do it yourself for that, or just get a used tranny for like $300 at the junkyard. I believe it's car-part.com that you can use to find parts a different junkyards within a given radius. be worth an extra hours drive to save a couple grand.
