Camry 98 wrong gear shift indication - or a proble/m

I have Camry 98, 6cyl., 52,000 miles
Few days ago, with no noticable reason, two gear position indicators - D and R - started to come up at the same time, when the gear is in D position. And all the time, that the gear is in any forward position, the reverse
(R) indicator is lit, together with a forward position indicator.

Any ideas?

Thank you

A switch on the trans behind the shifter arm controls the gear indictor lights. This switch could have a problem or might be the wiring, etc.
