3rd & 4th Generation (1992–1996 & 1997–2001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
My front right tire shredded and then bursted the other week... was a really scary experience, almost slammed into a big rig next to me. Had music blasted so didn't hear a thing.
I've been using a full sized spare in the mean time but my other tires are pretty worn out and especially that winter is coming up I want to replace all 4. I am not trying to go over $400 for tires, shipping + installation because I am very low on cash. I live in the D.C. area so it is usually nice weather but sometimes periods of heavy rain/snow.
I never really liked the OEM's I have now... they have horrible traction. What do you guys recommend?
Do you plan to do snow driving too? I bought tires for my dad's car, and they are AWSOME as an all around tire, even in the snow. 80k miles warentee. I'll take a look in the afternoon as to brand.

5 Lug Corolla WHAT?
Yokohama Avid H4, hands down among ALL tires out there. Avid V4 coming in close behind (if H4 isn't available) followed by TRZ in 14" and other sizes the Avids aren't available in. I have them on 4 out of 5 Toyotas in the family, the 5th Toyota has Yokohama SUV tires (Geolanders). Jon. p.s. The H. T. S. etc indicate speed rating, ie. H is up to 135 etc. T and S are lower speed rating. The T will be a bit of a softer ride than the H because the sidewall isn't as stiff which translates to a 'cushier' ride.
Crap, this is why I usually write myself a note. I know the tires on the car are $100 when factering in shipping, so I think it's out of your price range if those are $66 each.

I'll most likley be going with the Yokohama AVID TRZ's, plus I barley go over 80MPH... so the T rating should be fine. The AVID H4S's don't seem to be getting as high of a rating compared to the TRZ's... especially in the snow driving.
Going to check some local dealers to see if it's cheaper.

Yoko Avid is good.
I would consider Goodyear Retatta 2 also. Good life span and quiet all season.
Besides control - I think the worst thing is to have a humming tires when you are on the highway on a beautiful day.
I myself go to Merchant's Tire and Auto, they match the Tirerack price and charge me what they would for shipping and handling (usually another $11 per tire). I then buy the lifetime rotation/balancing/road hazard for another $20 per tire. In your case you should be able to pay around $400 out the door. Jon. p.s. being the 'one' that handles all the immediate family (parents, mother in law, wife, my) car I've had experience with Goodyear, Michelin, Pirelli, Dunlop, Bridgestone, etc. I'd have to say out of every tire that I've dealt with I'm happiest with the Yokohama brand, I'd really say they have the trifecta with the quality of tire, price and customer service. I was also very satisfied with Pirelli. Michelin is overpriced for what they are, and the rest "fugetabouit"
Give the Dunlop Sport A2 Pluses a look. They are a good all season tire, do pretty well in snow and rain and are an H speed rated tire. They should be in your price range. If you are a Sam's Club member, they can order them for you. They always seem to have the best overall deal on tires IMHO.

They seem like pretty good tires, but the Avid's seem to have overall better reviews, especially in the snow.
After some reading on Consumer Reports... I have decided to go with the Falken Ziex ZE 512 H-rated tires. They came in 3rd and are only $220 for all 4 tires! Free Shipping! @ discounttiredirect.com.
Now just got to find a place that will balance/mount them for cheap.
Sears has those tires for $66.39 each. Dont know if it includes balance and mount, but I doubt it. Maybe they can at least price match Discounttiredirect. I was looking to buying them there. Let us know how it goes for you.

I had those tires for 42,000 miles.
They have good grip wet/dry, corner well, and have a nice smooth ride, but they weren't the quietest tires.

I agree with Jon, go for the Yokohamas im on 205/60/16 Avid H4s, they are excellent performing, great specs, low priced. but heres my gripe, the Road noise is scary, esp on pavement. its very quiet on tarmac, but once you hit the older paved roads, or elevated roadways, its loud.
another issue ive had with Yokohamas, is snow traction, its overall pretty bad, i would def recommend picking maybe continental, or kumho (pending your budget, kumho also got great reviews for a cheap tire). about rain traction, i'll tell you, i tried to break them loose and do a burnout in pouring rain, hard acceleration, it gripped all the way to 60, i was rolling 5mph, and put down about 3/4 throttle, dont forget these are skinny 205's imagine i got the 215s? lol
hope that helped, id def get the yokos, it was about $380 installed for me.
