Fuel Pump Install- Leaking Fumes?

This is a question to people who have installed fuel pumps before...

I recently installed my 255lph fuel pump.

Originally, I had reused my old fuel pump bracket gasket and I also lost a screw by accident, so I got a strong fuel smell in my car since I presumed that the fuel pump bracket didn't seal right, so I picked up new screws and a new gasket and reinstalled them.

I'm not sure if it's just my imagination, but I think that I still smell the fuel- though there is probably some residual fuel in my backseat since I spilled some when pulling the pump, though I tried my best to clean it up.

Also though, when removing the original pump, I wasn't able to undo the bolts that held the out-flowing fuel line in place (the semi-hard line), so I cut it instead and after installing my new pump (which came with a bracket), I used clamps to hold a fuel hose between the original hard line on the car and the new bracket. In short, there are no leaks and pressure should be good.

Have I fogotten anything else to do, or is there any possibility that there are fumes coming from elsewhere? There is no smell from outside the car (that I can tell of), and it just seems to be the inside.

Or maybe I'm just paranoid and should just wait a couple days and see if the smell goes away...

Any ideas would be appreciated

If you spilled some fuel on the back seat, it's going to take a while before the fumes will dissipate. I spilled some fuel on my front passenger carpet one time in my 94 and it took about 10 days for the smell to dissapear. I would just leave it alone for now. You might try some Fabreeze spray.

^ lol...luckily I don't smoke and nobody's allowed to smoke in my car

but I *think* the smell is getting better.....

the fuel wasn't spilled on the cushions, it was spilled on the metal on the back, and somehow it made a bit of a "stain", so I'm going to try scrubbing that off with soap or something

thanks for the tips guys

this is kinda unrelated to the pump but i replaced my fuel filter and had fuel all other my hands, when i was done i didnt wash my hands..
but i checked the filter and other things and took my car out for a test drive.

the next day it smelled real bad in the car
at first i thought it was a leak... but come to find out that me not washing my hands and touching the inside (steer wheel, shifter, seats etc...) made the inside smeel like fuel
simple clean up took the smell away
