Finding a turbo 5sfe for engine swap?

I never really thought of trying to get my car any faster than it is, simply because it works fine the way it is, but i've recently come into a situation that might be beneficial.

One of my coworkers has a Camry with a 5sfe that's broken. He needs a new engine. One of my other coworkers thought it would be a good idea for me and the dude who needs an engine to both pay 50% for a turbo'd engine from a MR2, then we can put that in my car, and donate my old engine to the other Camry.

First off, I don't know where to get a hold of one of those turbo'd engines, second, I don't know what extra parts I might need to bolt it in there, and third ... even though it would be cool i'm still not really sure I want to put a turbo'd engine in my car.

Would it be more cost effective to just bolt a turbo kit onto my car? Thing is, if I did run a turbo i would only want a small amount of boost so I don't risk blowing any gaskets or piston rings. I don't want any extra wear on my engine as a result of a turbo ...

So what are everyone's thoughts?

thought 1:
use the search bar. this has been covered a million times, and I think it's even stickied.

thought 2:
fast, cheap, reliable. you can have any two.

thought 3:
if having turbo 5s's was cheap, there'd be more out there. You need to be a decent-level tech, have wiring and diagrams for both cars, parts for both cars, a welder, a lift, and a zillion smaller parts to do this well at all. oh, and engine management of some sort.

Thought 4:
Toyota made the FE to go a quarter million miles. Toyota made the GTE to push 500hp. The block is the only similarity. Drop a junkyard motor in the other one and be happy your car isn't going to be perpetually broken.

sorry, but I'm going to lock this while you go do a search and read up on your options, since this has been discussed time and time again

repost after you have more technically specific questions to ask
