Question My 1997 Camry needs a new suspension, what should I get?

My car is in my hella tight sig

Anyway, the shocks are shot and the suspension is soft as it is. From what I know, it is a PITA to replace even the stock shocks, so I might go for the gold and get a new suspension kit for it.

First: I DO NOT WANT TO LOWER TO LOOK LIKE LITTLE RICE BOY!!! I am ONLY doing this for PREFORMANCE, NOT LOOKS. Yes, I am sure I will drop some height (best if I don't, or if its adjustable), but lowering it is NOT the goal, better preformance is.

I cannot find much of anything online, do you have any recomendations as to what I should do?

Do I need anti-sway bars or anything like that? I really don't know where to start for this car.

Correct me if I am wrong, but don't you need some major toolage to get to the shocks on my car (McPherson's), I would probably have a shop do it for me.

Any guidance is appreciated. Links wanted too.

Thanks!!!

lowering a car isnt rice...

cutting the coil in order to achieve it is...

lowering a car lowers the center of gravity, which means better cornering and faster turn in speed...

however, if done improperly, like cutting the coil, you get a stiff, HARSH ride, that sucks a fat one...

if you get proper springs and shocks, you can lower your car, and have it perform better...

but, if you want a normal looking ride height, get adjustable coilovers...

or air bags ( ) ...

I also have a 97 camry, the setup I used are H&R springs 1.4 in front and 1.3 in the rear with Tokico blue shocks all around. Depending how low you want to go........but I am pleased with the set-up I have now. It rides smooth yet still has a tighter feel to it, not to mention 17's look real well on it too.

A front and rear sway bar also would help. Check out CTMotorsport(www.ctmotorsport.com), he's got them in stock, their made by Whiteline.

I did, but that post assumed I knew the basics. I do not (I know the parts, but not the brands and the parts for the Camry)

The H&R's look nice.

An eibach/tokico set up is nice for what you want to acheive. This gives you a tigher suspension set up without the big drop. If you want alittle more drop, the Voglands seem to be the spring of choice right now. Either spring you get, get tokcios for your struts or you will be like me, wishing you had.

Here's what a small drop looks like...

'00 LE 4 cyl with TRD springs and Tokico struts. Handles a lot better than before, the ride is stiffer, but not harsh. A bit more road noise comes in through the suspension.

If you replace the Tokico with TRD (Billstein) struts you'll get even better handling, but stiffer ride.

Add sway bars and you'll feel even flatter on corners. 17" wheels help a lot too!
