My buddy and I pulled a 5S-FE out of his 94 Camry 2 weeks ago.

Its easier to pull the engine with the tranny.

You could unbolt the tranny from the engine and support it with a tranny jack or whatever, but goodluck getting the engine and tranny to line backup when you bolt it back together.

Actually I did it twice where I left the tranny in the car...it wasn't all that bad lining it back up again. It's a lot easier with a engine level adjuster.

I am about to pull just the tranny out of a Corolla...this should be fun!

Yea, easier to pull it with the tranny.

My favorite method of lining them back up is to have my friend hold the transmission in his lap while we tilt the motor down into him

Oh that sounds like fun! He must be a good friend or not be a friend anymore!!

What do you normally do to change the clutch? You don't pull the engine for that, right?

Just drop the tranny, a lot easier that way.

Something doesn't make sense here. If the bell housing is still attached to the motor that means you haven't taken the tranny off yet.

The bell housing is part of the tranny.

1. Remove all the bolts holding the tranny to the motor (block).

2. Theres a access plate on the bottom of the tranny held on with 3 or 4 little bolts.

3. After you remove the access plate you need to unbolt the torque converter from the flex plate. Theres 6 or 8 bolts (I forget).

4. Then you can seperate the tranny from the motor. You might have to pry in between the 2 to get it seperated.
