3rd & 4th Generation (19921996 & 19972001)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1992-1996 & 1997-2001
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
i'm just thinking out loud here. I need to know more. i know there are a bunch of engine swap threads so heres another. i have a 95 with a 1mvz v6 . curious, will a 1mz-fe fit in? Is that the correct enine name for the gen5 v6 w/vvt? What else will have to be done? will the body be able to hold it securley without issues? just let me know anything you think i should know. Thanks all!
there are 2 engines, the 3.0L 1mz-fe and the 3.3L vvt-i 3MZ-FE. if u have the I4 then ull have to get engine mounts and redo the wiering(pain in the ass). if u have the V6 then ull have to switch the wiering but the engine would sit on the existing mounts, but im not really 100% sure on that. frame bracing would do nothing but stiffen the car itself, which would be fun, but not necissary since even the 3.3L has the same block and heads i believe. swaping the 3MZ-FE would be a first around here i believe.

sorry for highjack
whats the difference between the 2? 1mz NON-vvt and the vvt??
as far as i know the diffeance is the displacement it think both have the vvt. i think the tranny would work but id be best to ask someone in the gen 5 section. anyways if ur gonna swap the engine u might as well upgrade to a manual tranny and make the swap actually worth it. http://www.tt-cc.com/ratko/swap/index.html

Ok, I really have no idea what you mean. There was no such thing as a 1MVZ. All the Camry V6's in the US were (in order) as follows, 2VZ, 3VZ, 1MZ, 1MZ VVT-i, 3MZ VTT-i, and 2GR.

All Toyota v6's will fit for each other period.
Where you run into trouble are the truck engines (3vz-e, 5vz-fe, 1gr-fe) being taller.
And the newer FSE head's on the GR blocks being tall and WIDE.
Why would anyone swap a working 1mz-fe for a vvt-i version? It's extremely expencive, and gains almost nothing.
